Walter Wright Memorial Prize

The late Walter Wright, sometime Secretary for Education in the State of Tasmania, bequeathed an amount of £500 to the Director of Education for the State of Tasmania to be used by him for the benefit of the Teachers’ Training College at Hobart. The Teachers’ Training College ceased to exist on 31 December 1947 and the training of teachers for the Department of Education was taken over from that date by the University of Tasmania. It was ruled by the Supreme Court of Tasmania that the bequest may be used for the benefit of the work of teacher training at the University of Tasmania.
