The D'Arcy Wentworth Addison Memorial Scholarship was established in 1958 by the Honourable AR Downer, MHR, who donated a sum of money to the University of Tasmania with the object of commemorating the distinguished role played by his stepfather, the late D'Arcy Wentworth Addison, CMG, MVO ISO, in the Public Service of the State of Tasmania.

Awarded to the student with the greatest proficiency in first year units in Politics and Policy and who - (I) has not previously presented for examination in Politics and Policy units; (II) has obtained an overall standard at least equivalent to a pass with distinction in those first year Politics and Policy units; and (III) signifies an intention of completing a Politics and Policy major during their degree.
