The Tasmanian Association for the Teaching of English (TATE) is a State Branch of the Australian Association for the Teaching of English (AATE). It is a professional body that aims to promote and support the teaching and study of English in Tasmania. TATE wish to establish this prize for the highest achievement in First Year English.

Awarded for the best result in first year English (25% 100 level English units) achieved by a student enrolled in 100-level English in Semester 1 and Semester 2 who has successfully completed at least one pre-tertiary English course in Tasmania (TCE).
