The late Mrs Nelly M. Ewers, B.A., of the University of Tasmania, by her will bequeathed £100 for the purpose of establishing this prize.

Awarded for the highest score in English Literature (ENL315114) by a female candidate from a government school or college. If a tie, then awarded to the candidate with the highest ATAR. The recipient must also now be enrolled in study with the University of Tasmania.
