Friends of the late Rev. James Scott, D.D.established this prize in commemoration of his services to the cause of higher education in Tasmania. Rev. Scott was, for many years, a member of the Council of Education, and a member of the Council of the University from its foundation until the date of his death.

Awarded for the highest score in English Literature (ENL315114) at the TCE examinations. If a tie, then awarded to the candidate with the highest ATAR. The recipient must also be enrolled in study with the University of Tasmania.
