Awarded to the candidate who at first attempt has shown the greatest proficiency, with at least a Distinction average, in level 300 English.

Australian Association of Social Workers, Tasmania Branch Award

Awarded to the student completing the final year of the Bachelor of Social Work or Masters of Social Work (Professional Qualifying) with the highest academic achievement, and who demonstrates excellence in field practicums.

Awarded to the student with the highest overall mark in Honours in the Sociology discipline.

Austrian Embassy Prize for German Studies

Awarded to the student with the greatest proficiency in first year German.

B.J. Thompson Prize

Awarded annually to the student obtaining the best results in Politics and Policy units at 200 level. The prize may be withheld in any year if, in the opinion of the examiners, there is no candidate deserving of it.

Energy Bonus Prize

Awarded to the student who has shown the best performance in English units comprising at 100 level. The prize is to be awarded to a student who reaches at least Distinction level.

This prize rotates on an annual basis between disciplines within the College of Arts, Law and Education.

Eric Jeffrey Prize

Awarded to the student showing the greatest proficiency in the level 100 Latin units and who has not presented previously for examination and who has passed with High Distinction or Distinction.

F.C. Green Prize

Awarded to the student who at first attempt has shown the greatest proficiency in any HPP coded unit at 200 level.

FGN Ewence Memorial Prize

Awarded to the most outstanding student in English and Creative writing level 300 units who is enrolled in a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Education.

First Year History Prize

Awarded to the student who has given the best performance in a 100 level History unit.

Freddy Dayan Prize in French

Awarded annually to the student obtaining the best result in French 1B (HEF102).

G T Stilwell Prize

Awarded to the student at 300 level who has the best combination of results in any 200-300 level units of Australian history, and who has completed a major assignment in the field of Tasmanian history at Distinction level or above.

Goethe Prize in German Studies

Awarded to the student for the greatest proficiency in second year German, who has not previously presented for examination, and who has passed with 12 points at 200 level in German with Distinction or Higher Distinction.

Goethe-Institut Prize for German Studies: Advanced German

Awarded to the most outstanding non-native German speaking student in German 3B (HEF313).

Goethe-Institut Prize for German Studies: Third Year

Awarded to the most promising non-native German speaking student in German 3A (HEG313).

Helen Hodgman Prize for Creative Writing

Awarded to the student with the highest achievement in an English unit (HEN code) which has creative writing as its primary focus. This unit may be at 200, 300 or 400 level.

Ida Williams Prize

Awarded annually to the student who shows greatest proficiency in HEN101 and HEN102

Indonesian Language Prize

Awarded for highest achievement in the unit HMN102 Indonesian 1B. Recipient must have completed all requirements of the unit and received a final grade of at least a Distinction. Students with a breach of academic integrity will not be considered.

Awarded annually to the best student in HPP101 Introduction to Policy and Politics.

Jon Lajos Prize in Fine Arts

Awarded for the best History essay written in the year by a student enrolled at Launceston on-campus in first year History, HTA101 or HTA102Awarded for the best History essay written in the year by a student enrolled at Launceston on-campus in first year History, HTA101 or HTA102.

Margaret Stoermer Prize for best Third-Year or Honours Performer

Awarded for best performance by a third-year or Honours student in Jazz/Popular Music/Songwriter or Classical Performance at the Conservatorium of Music.

The nomination of Jazz/Popular Music/Songwriter students will alternate yearly with that of Classical Performance students.

Margaret Young Memorial Chinese Language Prize

Awarded for the highest achievement in unit HMC102 Chinese 1B

Recipients must have completed all requirements of the unit and received a final grade of at least a Distinction.

The prize can be jointly awarded at the discretion of the School.

Merle and Phyllis Weaver Prize for Asian History

Awarded to the student who has shown the greatest proficiency in an Asian Studies unit offered by the School of Humanities at level 200 or 300 (provided that no candidate may be awarded at both levels). The unit must include a component of Asian History.

Morris Miller Prize in Australian Literature

Awarded for the best Honours essay or research project in Australian Literature.

Tasmanian Historical Research Association M.D. McRae Memorial Prize

Awarded to the student with the greatest achievement in Australian History, and who has obtained at least a pass with Distinction in that unit and has not previously presented for the examination.

TATE Prize in Excellence in English Learning

Awarded for the best result in first year English (25% 100 level English units) achieved by a student enrolled in 100-level English in Semester 1 and Semester 2 who has successfully completed at least one pre-tertiary English course in Tasmania (TCE).

The Kenneth Waters Herodotean Prize

Awarded annually to the candidate who has shown the greatest proficiency in classical historiography in an intermediate or advanced Ancient Civilisations unit, and who [i] has not previously presented for examination in that unit; and [ii] has obtained at least pass with Distinction in that unit.

The Richard P Davis Prize in Irish History

Awarded for the best essay submitted for assessment in a history unit on a topic relating to the history of Ireland or the Irish people.

W.A. Townsley Honours Prize

Awarded to the student with the highest results in the honours years in either Politics and Policy or International Relations. The prize may be withheld in any year if in the opinion of the Committee of Assessors the required standard has not been achieved.
