The M.J. Rees Prize for First Year Information Systems was established in 1989 when a sum was donated by Professor M. J. Rees before his departure from Tasmania to Queensland.

Awarded to the student with the best performance in the units KIT105 ICT Professional Practices and KIT102 Introduction to Data Science. The student must achieve a High Distinction grade.
