Prizes

In 1988 the Alcohol and Drug Foundation - Tasmania Inc. donated a sum of money to the University of Tasmania to establish this prize in memory of Dr. Allan J. Foster. One of Dr. Foster's last wishes was that donations be made to this Foundation in lieu of floral tributes at his funeral. These donations, and other contributions, totalled the sum of money donated to the University.

Awarded annually to the student in the final year of the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery who submits the best essay on a topic of alcohol or drugs. All students in their final year of the MBBS course are eligible for the prize. The School of Medicine will issue an annual call for applications for this prize.
