The Derwent Agricultural Prize

The Derwent Valley Development Association was formed in the early seventies to provide support for agricultural diversification in the area. At the time, changes in economic conditions and world markets meant many traditional rural families were suffering difficulties. Over time, better circumstances saw the need for the Association to diminish and in winding it up the trustees determined that residual funds be donated to the University of Tasmania to fund an annual undergraduate prize in a degree course taught in the School of Agricultural Science.
