Emeritus Professor G.R.A. Ellis Honours Prize in Astrophysics

This prize is provided in honour of the late Emeritus Professor G.R.A. Ellis AO FAA by his daughter Elizabeth Ellis. Graeme Reade Anthony Ellis (always known as 'Bill') was a pioneer in the area of low-frequency radio observations in astronomy, an alumnus (BSc with first class honours, PhD and DSc), and well-respected senior member of academic staff at the University of Tasmania for over two decades. Bill was appointed to the Chair of Physics in 1960 and he then remained with his alma mater for the rest of his career. In 1982, the year of his retirement, he was granted the title of Emeritus Professor by the University for the distinction of his research achievements and his contributions to Australia's tertiary education sector. Throughout his career Bill took a keen interest in supervising and mentoring post-graduate students. The prizes aim to encourage and inspire students with a passion for radio astronomy.
