William von Witt Memorial Prize in Mathematics and Physics

This prize has been generously established by Richard and Victoria von Witt in memory of their son, William von Witt, who unexpectedly passed away in 2016. William von Witt was an alumnus of the University of Tasmania.

 

Eligibility

Awarded to the graduating student in the Bachelor of Science degree (or combined Bachelor of Science degree), with the highest overall results in a major in one of either Mathematics or Physics.

Disciplines of Mathematics & Physics to determine recipient in December each year. Prize to be awarded on the basis of the following:

a. Student graduating in the Bachelor of Science degree (or combined Bachelor of Science degree); and

b. has the highest overall results in a major in one of either Mathematics or Physics.

Students must firstly have achieved a GPA of 6.50 or higher in their undergraduate degree to be considered. To determine the recipient, results are to be calculated across the full duration of the major (ie 3 years) by taking into consideration the final score for each of the units which make up a major in Physics or Mathematics. In the event that there are two or more students with the same level of achievement, it is preferred that the prize not be split given the prestige, however this will be discussed with the donor on a case by case basis.
