Jon Lajos Prize in Fine Arts

Jon Lajos was a metaphysical, surrealist polymath, who was born in Tasmania but emotionally connected to his European heritage. He explored performance art, costume design, poetry and mask-making in his quest for spiritual truths. Most importantly, particularly in the last seven years of his life, Jon was a painter. Silenced by his early death in December 2003, Jon continues to resonate through his art. To make art, for Jon, was to live.

To recognise his tremendous talent and to assist similarly struggling artists, Jon’s family has endowed this annual prize at the School of Creative Arts.
